The Phoenix-based startup is seeing an uptick in customer interest for its materials processing technology that reduces waste and expenses in the semiconductor industry.

Crystal Sonic has landed $2.4 million worth of new research and development contracts this year to support continued expansion of its Sonic Lift-Off acoustic bass technique, which uses sound waves to cut and lift off thin crystal wafers used in semiconductor device fabrication, leaving behind bulk substrate for reuse.
